Focused Intervention on Exercise to Reduce CancEr
We are looking for women to join a 6-month study looking at how exercise may help you lose weight and reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease and breast cancer. If eligible, you will be part of the study for 6-months and over that time you will have the opportunity to earn up to $75 in grocery store gift cards.
Postmenopausal African American Women between the ages of 45-65
HPV Health Communication Intervention
This study seeks to educate Black mothers with daughters aged 9-17 years of age about HPV and the HPV vaccine. Specifically, we want to better under mothers' perceptions and attitudes about the vaccine. Mothers will participate in a 4-week educational session, complete a survey and the beginning of the study and one at the end of the study. Another group of mothers will receive mailed HPV informational flyers and print materials. Each of group of participants will receive a $25 grocery store gift card for their participation. Findings will help us develop educational materials for other mothers.
- Black mothers (female primary caregivers)
- Have HPV-unvaccinated daughters 9-17 years of age
- Reside in DC Ward 6, 7, or 8
- Literate in English
The Women's Hormonal therapy Initiation & Persistence
We are looking for ways to improve use of hormonal therapy breast cancer treatment. Participants Can Expect a series of phone interviews with research staff over a 36 month period, and to provide a voluntary saliva sample using an at home mouthwash kit. Eligible candidates will receive a gift card after completing the phone interviews.
- 21 years of age or older
- Diagnosed with non-recurring breast cancer.

Research Projects for Men
Mitigating Issues related to ADT by Getting in SHape and Training to be HealthY
We are looking for prostate cancer survivors who have been on Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) for less than a year looking at how strength and aerobic exercise may help lessen the adverse side effects related to ADT. If eligible, you will be part of the study for up to 8-weeks and over the time you will have the opportunity to learn more about your current health and how physical activity help ease the harsh side-effects related to ADT such as muscle and bone density loss.
- Male and between ages of 40-75 years old
- Currently receiving Androgen Deprivation Therapy (for less than one year)
HPV and Adolescent Male Study
This study focuses on understanding better what adolescent Black males know and understand about HPV and the HPV vaccine. We will be conducting focus groups, key informant interviews, and collecting surveys. Study findings will help us develop HPV educational interventions adolescent Black males. Participants will receive a $25 grocery store gift card for their participation.
